Fashion is unnecessary. Fashion is useless.
Everyone needs to put on clothes to keep one warm. But one doesn’t “need” to put on homemade knitwear, or fancy designer pieces, textured neoprene sweaters, tweed blazers, leather high-top sneakers, embroidered ornaments.. And yet the luxury that is fashion is perhaps what defines us best, and how we, conscious human beings, can express our intelligence, our sensibility to beauty, our creativity. In order to express one’s individuality. In order not to be ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL
And yet “fashion”, or rather fashion trends, can also emprison, dictate, guide, rule, and impose a certain idea of what style should be at a certain time. It’s the paradox of fashion, or perhaps the difference between fashion and style. One should use fashion to develop one’s own style. And that’s what will help one not be just, another brick in the wall.
A brickwall served as the background for a part of the following shoot.
I’ve been dying to create a look around the center piece of today’s look: this incredible textured sweater from KENZO ‘s current SprinSummer 14 collection.
The collection was mostly inspired by waves and the ocean, however the rectangular shape reminded me of a brick on a brick wall, hence the inspiration behind this post’s name and the song that goes along with it.
Here is how the sweater was styled on the runway.
The picture below shows another piece from the collection that I’m dying to get: this gorgeous bomber jacket featuring the same rectangular pattern.
I wanted to keep the sporty feel of the sweater but also play with the idea of texture. Since the center part of the rectangle looks like leather, I echoed this aspect with these (fake) leather pants from Zara. I completed the look with Adidas classic superstar sneakers and a black hat.
Here is the look:
I hope you enjoyed this look! as well as my interpretation of the famous Pink Floyd song: not wanting to be “another brick in the wall” could mean not wanting to follow in dictated footsteps but create your own path by defining your own style..but that’s just my interpretation!
See you soon with more looks..
InfasHionably yours,
H
